Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
This nationally recognised qualification prepares educators to support the wellbeing and development of young children in approved early childhood settings. Working within established policies, they apply sound judgment and skills in long day care, family day care, preschools, or kindergartens—either independently or with guidance.

CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally recognised qualification from the Community Services Training Package. It prepares students to support the wellbeing, learning, and development of children in regulated education and care services across Australia.
To complete the qualification, students must undertake at least 160 hours of practical placement in a regulated children’s education and care service.

Total: 15 core units + 2 electives
All units include a theory component and practical application.Core Units Include:
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk (superseded)
HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
CHCECE034 Use an approved learning framework to guide practice
CHCECE032 Nurture babies and toddlers (160 hrs)
CHCECE033 Develop positive and respectful relationships with children (160 hrs)
CHCECE030 Support inclusion & diversity
CHCECE054 Encourage understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures
CHCECE035 Support holistic learning and development (160 hrs)
CHCECE036 Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning (160 hrs)
CHCECE038 Observe children to inform practice
CHCECE055 Meet legal and ethical obligations
CHCECE056 Work effectively in children’s education and care
CHCECE031 Support children’s health, safety and wellbeing (160 hrs)
CHCECE037 Support children to connect with the natural environment

CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
HLTFSE001 Follow Basic Food Safety Practices (to be replaced with CHCECE0 – Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices)

Duration: 49 weeks
Mode: Classroom-based (face-to-face, 1 day per week: Mon–Thurs options)
Includes additional weekly study (reading, research, assessments)
Work placement: 160 hours across the duration
Students may be independent or trainees employed at a service

Minimum age: 17 years
Recommended: Completion of Year 10 and basic adult literacy/numeracy
Students may be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment
Support or pre-vocational courses will be offered if needed

Traineeships are available for eligible students employed in an early childhood service.
A training plan will be agreed upon between the student, employer, and CCST, and submitted to Traineeship and Apprenticeship Services (TAS). It outlines:
