Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care

This nationally recognised qualification prepares educators to support the wellbeing and development of young children in approved early childhood settings. Working within established policies, they apply sound judgment and skills in long day care, family day care, preschools, or kindergartens—either independently or with guidance.

  • CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally recognised qualification built from competency standards within the Community Services Training Package. To complete this qualification, students must undertake at least 280 hours of practical placement in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia.

  • Total: 12 core units + 3 electives
    All units are delivered with both theory and workplace-based learning.

    • BSBTWK502 Manage team effectiveness

    • CHCECE044 Facilitate compliance in a children’s education and care service

    • CHCECE042 Foster holistic early childhood learning, development and wellbeing

    • CHCECE050 Work in partnership with children’s families

    • CHCECE045 Foster positive and respectful interactions and behaviour in children

    • CHCECE046 Implement strategies for inclusion of all children

    • CHCECE043 Nurture creativity in children

    • CHCECE047 Analyse information to inform children’s learning

    • CHCECE049 Embed environmental responsibility in service operations

    • CHCECE048 Plan and implement children’s education and care curriculum

    Electives:

    • BSBHRM413 Support the learning & development of teams and individuals

    • CHCECE052 Plan service & supports for children & families

    • CHCMGT003 Lead the work team

    • Mode: Blended delivery

    • Face-to-Face Classes: 1 day per month (Mondays – compulsory attendance)

    • Virtual Classrooms + Online Resources via Moodle

    • Support: Ongoing via email, phone, Zoom, and face-to-face check-ins

    • Resources Provided: Textbooks, self-study guide, assessment pack

    • Duration: 17 months

    • Work Placement: 280 hours minimum

    • Students need a computer and internet access

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available and will be discussed with all learners.

    • Must have completed CHC30113 or CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

    • Must be currently employed in the early childhood sector

    • Minimum age: 18 years

    • Recommended: Completion of Year 10 and basic adult literacy/numeracy

    • Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment may be required

    • If needed, students will be referred to a pre-vocational foundation course

    • Students must provide a clear Working With Children Check Apply here

    • Fortnightly facilitator check-ins

    • On-the-job competency completion for employed learners

    • Online videos to assist with each assessment

    • Individual support available throughout each unit

    • WorkReady Funded Student Contribution: $675

    • No fee concessions or exemptions offered
