Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting

This is a nationally accredited course tailored for educators and support staff in early childhood and school-age care environments. It equips participants with the skills and knowledge to respond effectively to first aid emergencies involving infants, children, and adults, including managing asthma and anaphylaxis situations.

It equips participants with the skills and knowledge to respond effectively to first aid emergencies involving infants, children, and adults, including managing asthma and anaphylaxis situations. This course aligns with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and meets the requirements set by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) .

  • Upon successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

    • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

    • HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support

    • HLTAID011 – Provide first aid

    • HLTAID012 – Provide first aid in an education and care setting

    • Mode: Blended delivery combining online theory with face-to-face practical assessment.

    • Duration: Varies by provider; typically includes:

    • Online Theory: Approximately 2–4 hours.

    • Practical Session: 3.5 to 8 hours, depending on the training organization .

    Note: Participants are required to perform CPR on the floor as part of the assessment.

    • Age: Minimum age requirements vary; some providers accept students aged 14 and above, while others require participants to be at least 16 or 18 years old .

    • Language, Literacy, and Numeracy: Basic proficiency is recommended to successfully complete the course.

    • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform practical demonstrations, including CPR on the floor.

  • Participants will learn to:

    • Recognise and assess emergency situations.

    • Perform CPR on infants, children, and adults.

    • Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

    • Manage casualties with bleeding, burns, fractures, and other injuries.

    • Respond to medical conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, and shock.

    • Apply infection control procedures.

    • Communicate effectively with emergency services and caregivers.

    • Complete incident reports and understand legal responsibilities.

    • Reflect on psychological impacts and contribute to post-incident reviews

    • Cost: Course fees are $300.

    • Certification: Upon successful completion, participants receive a nationally recognized Statement of Attainment valid for three years. CPR components are typically recommended to be refreshed annually.
